Tarnishing

Tarnishing

We are aware of an intermittant problem with some of our Black Silver Shop gift packaging which is causing a sudden level of tarnishing to the sterling silver jewellery. This problem is only affecting products from our Silver Girl range as they are always presented in these gift boxes and is being caused by a reaction to the materials or adhesives that are used in the manufacturing of the packaging.

We have already taken steps to avoid this tarnishing by inserting small black tabs into the gift boxes at the time of purchase and that has relieved the occurrence of the problem but instances where the packages are exposed to direct sunlight, creating heat seem to be exacerbating the tarnishing issues.

We regret that this has or may cause you inconvenience and we are taking steps to remove this packaging from our system.

If this issue has affected a recent purchase that you made in store, we ask that you please make us aware and return to the store and our team will be happy to rectify this for you.

If you have made your purchase online, please contact us at sales@silvershop.com.au with your order number and we will advise you how to proceed.

What is tarnishing?

Tarnishing is usually a normal discolouration of silver over time and is a natural reaction to chemicals in the atmosphere, heat and the body oils of the wearer when they come into contact with the metal.

We would like to reassure customers that the tarnishing which has been caused by this packaging is easily remedied and not permanent.
